Our Reserves and Senior teams had solid hit outs against our old rival OX at Bungaree on Saturday. Conditions were very soft under foot after some heavy rain but our Reserves team acquitted itself extremely well in the tough conditions.
The weather had cleared in time for the Senior game but the going was tough. It was a very hard fought contest with neither team yielding in the early stages in what was a goal for goal contest. OX edged clear late in the game after some efficient centre clearance work to eventually run out winners by 12 points.
It was a great opportunity for our Seniors Coaches to look at some of our younger players in the absence of senior players, Lynch, Wood, Schulz, Gilham, Brown, Mathieson, Kanakis, G. Gleeson and VFL boys, Wallis and Sullivan and they were suitably impressed. It was great to have some of our VFL listed boys play their first game for the season namely, Billy Coates, Ethan Phillips and Billy Lloyd.
The Senior team rounds out the pre-season this Thursday with a practice match against EFL team Wantirna South at 6pm at Walker Reserve in Wantirna South. The expectation is that our best team will get the opportunity to show its best as they tune up for the big Round 1 clash against Uni Blues on Saturday 7th April. It’s also great that we finally get back to our home ground, TH King in the week leading into Round 1.
It’s been a tough pre-season for many reasons but everyone is very excited about the start of the 2018 season.
